Please join us for GCBA's next luncheon on May 19, 2023, at the 1818 Club. The May Luncheon will feature a presentation by China Thomas, Gwinnett County's Director of Transit Capital Improvement Projects. 

Ms. Thomas was named director of Transit Capital Improvement Projects in October 2021. For over two decades, Thomas has coached, motivated, and developed teams; established business systems, processes, and organizational structures; increased operational efficiency and system safety and service quality. Thomas has been a significant leader in connecting communities and moving people through her operational management background in the public sector. Her most significant career accomplishment was expanding a transit system from 27 routes to 35 routes in Long Beach, California. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Redlands. Thomas is an alumna of the Eno Center for Transportation Emerging Leaders Program and a member of the Women’s Transportation Seminar Los Angeles Chapter and the California Transit Association.

Plea for Volunteers! Judge Mock Trial Online (NEXT Weekend)

600 Students from 23 States Need Your Support

I'm writing with an exciting opportunity to help a remarkable group of 600+ high school students by serving as a mock trial judge or juror. As an added bonus, you don't even need to leave the comfort of your own home to do so because the trials are all online.

Here is more information about the program:

• There are trials on Saturday (5/20) and Sunday (5/21) at 10 AM ET and 3 PM ET on both days;
• Rounds last approximately 3.5 hours, which includes an orientation session before the trial;
• You can learn more and sign up on our website;
• The fact pattern is fun and topical, inspired by the Alec Baldwin Rust shooting case;
• This program is hosted by the nonprofit Empire Mock Trial, which started this initiative to make learning more accessible for students by leveraging the power of the online platform
  
• • 1/3 of our student body is on full scholarship while the rest of our group is receiving subsidized admission
